Frequently Asked Questions: Surveys, Timelines & Aftercare

Your Flooring Questions, Answered

When you are planning new flooring, you will always have questions, and there are no silly ones. We have gathered the questions we hear most often from customers across Luton and Bedfordshire, and answered them honestly. If your question is not here, just ask us at your free survey, or get in touch any time.

About Surveys and Quotes

How long does a free home survey take?
Most surveys take around 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the job. We measure the rooms, check the subfloor, and talk through your options. There is no obligation and no pushy sales pitch; it is simply the right way to get accurate prices.

Do I need to prepare anything before the survey?
No. Just show us the rooms and tell us about your needs. We will take measurements and advise on what will work. If you are replacing flooring, knowing roughly what is underneath helps, but we will check that ourselves.

How quickly will I get my quote?
We aim to send a clear, itemised quote within a day or two of the survey. It will show exactly what is included, so you can compare it fairly with any other quotes you receive.

Do you charge for the survey or the quote?
No. The home survey and the quote are completely free, with no obligation to proceed. We would rather you chose us because we are the right fit, not because you feel committed.

About Installation and Timelines

How long does the installation take?
It depends on the size and complexity of the job. A single bedroom carpet is often completed in a day. A full house with subfloor preparation can take several days. We will give you a realistic timeline before we start, so you know what to expect.

Do I need to move all my furniture?
It helps enormously if the rooms are cleared before installation day. We will confirm the details when you book. If you have heavy items you cannot move, let us know in advance and we will plan accordingly.

Can you help move heavy furniture?
Within reason, yes. Pianos, heavy wardrobes and large appliances need planning, so tell us when you book. For very heavy or fragile items, you may need to arrange specialist help, but we will always do what we can.

What happens to my old flooring?
We can remove and dispose of old carpet and underlay as part of the job. Let us know what you are replacing when you get your quote, and we will confirm whether removal is included.

About Products and Aftercare

How do I clean my LVT?
LVT is wonderfully easy to look after. Regular sweeping or vacuuming, followed by an occasional mop with a pH-neutral floor cleaner, will keep it looking great. Avoid abrasive cleaners and excess water, and use felt pads under furniture to prevent scuffs.

Will my carpet go flat over time?
A good quality carpet with proper underlay and correct fitting will hold its appearance for many years. The underlay is the secret; it supports the carpet and protects it from footfall. This is exactly why we never skimp on underlay.

Is laminate suitable for kitchens and bathrooms?
Laminate is not waterproof, so we generally do not recommend it for bathrooms. In kitchens it can work, but any standing water needs wiping up promptly. For wet areas, LVT or vinyl are the better choices.

Can I install flooring myself to save money?
Some click-together products are advertised as DIY friendly, and it is possible. But professional fitting protects your investment, particularly where subfloor preparation matters. A poorly prepared subfloor will ruin even the best flooring, and our workmanship is guaranteed.

How should I look after my engineered wood floor?
Engineered wood benefits from regular sweeping and occasional damp mopping with a wood floor cleaner. Use felt protectors under furniture legs and avoid walking on it with wet shoes or high heels. With sensible care, an engineered wood floor will look beautiful for decades.

What about staircases and landings?
Stairs are the hardest area to fit and the easiest to get wrong. We measure every step individually and fit the carpet so it is safe, tight and neat. If you are having a full house of carpet, we can usually include the stairs and landing in the same visit, which is often better value.
